New Delhi: The Indian Embassy in Israel issued an advisory for its citizens after a ‘state of war’ was declared in Israel following a massive attack by Hamas militants from Gaza.
Indians in Israel have been advised to remain vigilant and observe safety protocols.
“In view of the current situation in Israel, all Indian nationals in Israel are requested to remain vigilant, and observe safety protocols as advised by local authorities. Please exercise caution, avoid unnecessary movement and stay close to safety shelters,” the Embassy said in a statement.
The Embassy also urged Indian citizens to contact officials in case of an emergency.
Hamas, a Palestinian Sunni-Islamic fundamentalist, militant and nationalist organisation, launched one of the biggest attacks on Israel in years by firing around 5,000 rockets from Gaza. Armed militants were also reported to have crossed over to Israel, forcing Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu to issue a video statement.
“We are at war, and we will win. Our enemy will pay a price the type of which it has never known,” Netanyahu said.
Prime Minister Modi condemned the terrorist attacks and expressed India’s solidarity to Israel.
“Deeply shocked by the news of terrorist attacks in Israel. Our thoughts and prayers are with the innocent victims and their families. We stand in solidarity with Israel at this difficult hour,” Modi tweet.
Intense fighting is underway between Israeli army and Hamas militants.
