New Delhi: Rahul Gandhi has held Union Home Minister Amit Shah responsible for the violence against students on July 20, alleging that he had authorised the use of lethal weapons, including pellet guns, against them.
“We hold Mr Amit Shah directly responsible for the violence that has taken place against our students. He authorised the shooting of our students. He authorised the use of lethal weapons, including pellet guns, against our students,” the Congress leader claimed on Saturday.
“For us, this is a fundamental issue. We will not accept our own forces shooting at the future of India. This will be a major issue in Parliament,” Rahul added.
The Monsoon session of Parliament, which began on July 20, saw walkouts galore with the Opposition raising issues like NEET paper leak and demanding Dharmendra Pradhan’s resignation.
With Pradhan quitting as Education minister on Saturday and Cockroach Janta Party ending its 49-day protest at Jantar Mantar, Rahul and Congress were quick to shift focus on other related issues in an effort to maintain pressure on the Narendra Modi government.
A day earlier, Rahul had shown journalists wounds suffered by one of the protesters, claiming it to be pellet injuries.
Delhi Police had earlier denied the use of pellets against protesters.
But on Friday, a probe was launched by the Rapid Action Force (RAF) into the use of disproportionate force and pellets during the ‘Sansad chalo’ march by protesters on July 20.
