New Delhi: Speculation about possible notification of the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) has been triggered after Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh’s cars were seen having ‘CAA’ mentioned on the number plates.
With ‘CAA’ featured on the number plates, there is speculation among the public about whether the government intends to convey a message regarding the imminent implementation of the law.
Shah’s car spotted the number plate ‘DL 1CAA 4421’ when he arrived for the BJP’s election body meeting at the party headquarters in New Delhi on Thursday.
Recently, Shah stated that the government intends to enforce the CAA before the Lok Sabha elections, scheduled to take place in a few weeks. Shah affirmed that the law, which was enacted in 2019, would be put into effect before the Lok Sabha polls following the issuance of the relevant regulations.
“Our Muslim brothers are being misled and instigated (against the CAA). The CAA is only meant to give citizenship to those who came to India after facing persecution in Pakistan, Afghanistan and Bangladesh. It is not for snatching anyone’s Indian citizenship,” Shah had said earlier.
