New Delhi/Bathinda: A meeting involving home minister Amit Shah and the farmers’ representatives on Tuesday ended in a deadlock. However, the agitating farmers agreed for a meeting at Singhu border, reported The Times of India.

Farmers are learnt to have decided to consider fresh proposals and then take a call on whether to renew negotiations. The sixth round of the scheduled talks is unlikely to be held on Wednesday.

At the end of Tuesday’s meeting, All India Kisan Sabha leader Hannan Mollah said the Centre was not ready to take back the farm laws.

This was earlier conveyed by Union ministers Narendra Tomar and Piyush Goyal, but the message being amplified by the home minister carries a degree of finality even as he heard the farmers patiently, according to the national daily.

Shah is believed to have given a written assurance that the minimum support price (MSP) regime will not be scrapped and explained that retention of the APMC system was not connected to the laws. The Centre also said that it is prepared to strengthen the mandi system.
