Amul milk will cost more from July 1 across the country.
Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federations announced on Wednesday that consumers will have to shell out Rs 2 per litre extra for all varieties of Amul milk, both cow and buffalo.
“Prices of Amul milk will be increased by Rs 2 per litre across India from tomorrow. The new prices will be applicable on all Amul milk brands like Gold, Taaza, Shakti, T-special, as well on cow and buffalo milk,” informed RS Sodhi, Managing Director of GCMMF, which markets Amul milk and dairy products.
The hike in price, a gap of one year and seven months, was necessitated by the rise in food inflation.
“Additionally, the cost for packaging has gone up by 30 to 40 per cent, the transportation cost by 30 per cent, and the energy cost by 30 per cent, which led to the increase in the input cost,” said Sodhi.
It was in December 2019 that Amul last hiked the price of milk, by Rs 3 per litre in Gujarat, Delhi-NCR, West Bengal and Maharashtra. Mother Dairy had also effected a similar rise in milk prices in Delhi-NCR.
The consumption of milk products has risen significantly during the COVID-19 pandemic-induced lockdown. Amul’s business, thus, has grown during this period.
