Bhubaneswar: An Anaconda died in the Nandankanan Zoo in the afternoon on Thursday. Informing this to the media, the zoo authorities said that the cause of the death will be ascertained after post-mortem on Friday.
A five-member team of officials of the Nandankanan Zoo had brought eight yellow Anacondas (four male and four female) and three Nile crocodiles from the Madras Crocodile Bank Trust & Centre for Herpetology (MCBT) Chennai.
The yellow Anaconda is a Boa species endemic to southern South America. It is one of the largest snakes in the world but smaller than the green Anaconda. Like all Boas and Pythons, it is non-venomous and kills its prey by constriction.
