Bhubaneswar: A man was arrested by the police in Bhubaneswar on Friday for allegedly intimidating and duping people by posing as an IAS officer.
The accused has been identified as Varada Sudheer from Vishakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh.
Police sources said the man allegedly purchased luxury sun
glasses from optical store near Rupali
Square on Friday. However, he refused to pay the money by identifying himself as an IAS officer, posted as a Sub-Collector.
Local traders and shopkeepers grew suspicious of his behaviour and activities. The shop owner and others informed the police.
After receiving information, a team of the Saheed Nagar Police Station reached the spot and detained the accused for questioning. After verification, police found that he was not an officer.
Police later arrested the accused and registered a cheating case against him.
He allegedly used a fake ID card to purchase luxury goods, stay in star hotels, and rent premium cars while producing forged online transaction receipts to avoid payments.
According to police, Sudhir has multiple fraud cases registered against him in several districts and was previously jailed for similar crimes. He was out on bail when he committed the latest offences.
