New Delhi: Condemning the arrest and denial of bail to Hindu monk Chinmoy Krishna Das Prabhu in Bangladesh, Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan on Wednesday sought the United Nations’ intervention over the alleged atrocities against Hindus in the neighbouring country.

Kalyan urged Muhammad Yunus, chief advisor to the interim government, to stop atrocities on the Hindu community. The Deputy Chief Minister also reminded Bangladesh of India’s contribution to the creation of the neighbouring country. He said the Indian Army jawans had laid their lives to ensure Bangladesh’s freedom from Pakistan.

Massive protests have erupted in Bangladesh over the arrest and denial of bail to Prabhu. The monk had raised his voice against the acts of violence against Hindus in Bangladesh. The monk was held by the Dhaka Police’s Detective Branch at Dhaka airport on November 25. A Chittagong court rejected his bail and charged him with sedition.

A Hindu Unity Call
Taking to the social media, Kalyan gave a call to the Hindu community to condemn the incident and sought the UN intervention into the matter. “Let’s all unite together in condemning the detention of ISKCON Bangladesh Priest ‘Chinmoy Krishna Das’ by Bangladesh police. We urge and plead Bangladesh Govt under Sri Mohammed Yunus to stop atrocities on Hindus. Indian army blood has been spilled, our resources had been spent, our Army Jawans’ lives had been lost for Bangladesh formation. We are deeply disturbed the way our Hindu brothers and sisters are being targeted. We plead @UN @UNinIndia to intervene,” Kalyan posted on X.

Reacting to the arrest of the ISCKON monk, Sri Sri Ravishankar said: “It is unbecoming of a Prime Minister of a neighbouring country to arrest a spiritual leader. He is not taking weapons, he is not taking guns, he is caring for his people. He is just standing up for the rights and wants the government to hear the atrocities that are happening to the minorities there. Arresting religious priests is not going to do any good to them or to the people or to the country or even to the image of Bangladesh. We expect much more from Professor Mohammad Yunus who has got the Nobel Peace Prize for bringing peace and security to people and that’s why he has been put there as a Prime Minister.”

India has also urged Dhaka to ensure the safety and security of Hindus, a religious minority in the country.
“We have noted with deep concern the arrest and denial of bail to Shri Chinmoy Krishna Das, who is also the spokesperson of the Bangladesh Sammilit Sanatan Jagran Jote. This incident follows the multiple attacks on Hindus and other minorities by extremist elements in Bangladesh. There are several documented cases of arson and looting of minorities’ homes and business establishments, as well as theft and vandalism and desecration of deities and temples,” the MEA said in a statement.
