Bhubaneswar: A day after a passenger train overshot the signal and hit another from behind along Andhra Pradesh- Odisha border, the Vizianagaram district administration on Monday released the list of 13 deceased.
Among them are 9 males, two females while bodies of two are yet to be identified. The deceased also include Vizag-Rayagada loco pilot, Visakhapatnam-Palasa Express guard and a gangman. One of the dead identified so far is from Odisha.
Over 50 passengers sustained injuries in the accident, which took place last evening when Visakhapatnam-Rayagada Passenger Special train hit Visakhapatnam-Palasa passenger from the rear. They are undergoing treatment at hospitals in Visakhapatnam and Vizianagaram.

Meanwhile, restoration work is under way at the accident spot and the tracks are expected to be cleared by 4 pm. Movement of trains on Chennai-Kolkata route has been halted since the accident.

“ECoR General Manager Manoj Sharma is monitoring the restoration work at the accident site along with Principal Heads of Departments of ECoR and Divisional Railway Manager Waltair. Eight poclain machines, one 140 tonnes crane and 800 to 900 manpower are engaged in the restoration work,” an ECoR release said.
