Bhubaneswar: The trailer of Anek has just dropped and it is splendid in every way. In the political action thriller directed by Anubhav Sinha, Ayushmann Khurrana plays an agent named Joshua, who is tasked to intercept a deadly terrorist outfit in the north-eastern part of India, while raising some critical questions on what makes us truly Indian.
The 194-second trailer begins with Ayushmann walking down the Rajpath, introducing himself as someone who works for the security and protection of the north-east as a special agent in the armed force, which has been ordered to broker a peace deal between the Indian government and a military outfit which has suddenly become active.
His job is to neutralise a threat being posed by the separatist group led by the formidable leader Johnson.
A local female boxer, who aspires to make it to the national level to end the delusion, “Northeast people are not Indians”, is recruited by Ayushmann to infiltrate Johnson. Andrea Kevichusa plays this character.
The trailer raises many critical issues of identity showing the sharp divide between North and South India as well as why the northeast people are cut off from the rest of the country. The film is based on the centrepiece of identity conflict that separates people on the basis of demographic factors.
JD Chakravrthi of Satya fame, who is making his Hindi film comeback, is seen debating with Ayushmann how fluency in Hindi decides our citizenry, and it is likely to trigger many debates in the ongoing ‘Hindi is a national language‘ debate spurred by Ajay Devgn recently.
Anek marks the second collaboration between director Anubhav Sinha and Ayushmann after dramatic-thriller Article 15 The film also stars Danny Denzongpa, Manoj Pahwa and Kumud Mishra in pivotal roles. It will hit theatres on May 27, after it was pushed by a week to avoid a clash with the Ranveer Singh-starrer Jayeshbhai Jordaar.
