Sundargarh: In a shocking incident, an Anganwadi worker was allegedly hacked to death by a youth over one-sided love affair at a village in Hemagiri area of Odisha’s Sundargarh district on Wednesday.
The incident reportedly took place at Julambahal village under the jurisdiction of Hemagiri police station in the district.
Sources said the young man fled the scene after committing the crime and police have launched an investigation.
As per locals, accused Sarat Kaudi of the same village had been harbouring one-sided love for Anganwadi worker Dibyabharati. Despite her repeated rejections, he continued to propose to her.
Dibyabharati was returning home from the Anganwadi centre with a child when Sarat attacked her at a deserted place. The woman fell unconscious and died after being hit twice with an axe.
On being informed, her family rushed to the scene and informed the police. Police have registered a murder case and are continuing their investigation. A hunt has been launched to trace the youth.
