Balasore: An anganwadi worker was thrashed by a group of enraged villagers over alleged anomalies in distribution of nutritional food to children.
The incident took place at Ataspur village in Baripada panchayat under Bahanaga block of Balasore district.
According to sources, a group of villagers, mostly women, barged into the local anganwadi centre and asked the victim, identified as Basanti Mallick, to show them the resolution notebook. However, Basanti refused to do so by stating that the Child Development Protection Officer (CDPO) concerned handled the resolution notebook. Irked over the incident, the villagers beat her up mercilessly.
Being informed about the incident from the CDPO, officials from Khantapada police station rushed to the spot and rescued the woman.
“A complaint has been lodged by Basanti. Meanwhile, some locals alleged that the victim was attacked by some of villagers over certain irregularities in distribution of nutritional food, including ‘chhatua’ to the children and selection of anganwadi helpers,” a police officer said.
