New York: After more than eight years, Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt have finally reached a divorce settlement, according to reports. Reports quoting Jolie’s lawyer stated one of the longest and most contentious divorces in Hollywood history apparently settled on Monday.
Jolie’s attorney, James Simon, has also reportedly confirmed about the deal to The Associated Press. “More than eight years ago, Angelina filed for divorce from Mr. Pitt,” Simon said, as quoted in an India Today report.
“She and the children left all of the properties they had shared with Mr. Pitt, and since that time she has focused on finding peace and healing for their family. This is just one part of a long ongoing process that started eight years ago. Frankly, Angelina is exhausted, but she is relieved this one part is over,” he added.
However, no court documents have been filed yet. A judge will need to sign off on the agreement.
Married for 12 years….
Jolie, 49, and Pitt, 61, were among Hollywood’s most prominent couples. They had been married for 12 years. The two Oscar winners have six children together. Jolie filed for divorce in 2016. She had alleged that Pitt was abusive towards her and her children after a private jet flight from Europe. A judge in 2019 declared them divorced. But, the splitting of assets and child custody needed to be separately settled. And, so the case lingered.
A private judge that they had hired to handle the case had decided equal custody of their children. But Jolie filed to have the judge removed from the case. An appeals court agreed, the judge was removed. And, the case started all over.
