Angry Netizens Troll Jaya Bachchan For Calling Akshay’s Film ‘Toilet: Ek Prem Katha’ A Flop

Mumbai: Veteran actress and Rajya Sabha MP Jaya Bachchan has left netizens angry for criticising the Akshay Kumar-starrer ‘Toilet: Ek Prem Katha’ while discussing about movies with a social message during an India TV event.

Calling it a flop film, Jaya wondered why people will go to watch a movie with such a title.

She added, “Aaj kal toh political parties bhi films bana rahi hain. (Nowadays, political parties are also making films.)”

Social media users trolled Jaya and mocked her son Abhishek Bachchan, whose films usually fail to impress the audience.

“Toilet was a really good movie though! It brought awareness to a topic that’s rarely spoken about in public and Akshay was very funny in it. It was a hit too I think,” commented one person.

“How ridiculous. That movie was a great message of the troubles of women in India surviving in a villages. People like her have luxurious life and talk. Akshay did a great job,” expressed another user.

Another netizen shared, “It was not a flop, it was a box office hit.”

“For those who didn’t have a toilet , this movie made a difference,” read another comment.

Another wrote, “Isko poocho uske bete Abhishek ki movie kitne log dekhne jate hai ek bhi haaath nahi uthega 😝.”

One person wrote, “What abt Drona? Audience ko aaya Rona.”

“Jaya Bachchan says nobody will watch movies with name like Toilet Ek Prem Katha, Padman. Collections: Toilet ek prem katha- 216 crore, Padman- 191 crores. Much more than movies of Abhishek. Btw Amitabh Bachchan made a movie Piku where all he talked about was Toilet,” pointed out another user.

The 2017 film, which also starred Bhumi Pednekar, laid emphasis on the need to build toilets in rural areas and eradicate the issue of open defecation.
