Barbil (Odisha): The mining division of JSW Steel, Odisha earned two Overall Performance awards during the grand finale of the 42nd Annual Mines Safety Week Celebrations (AMSWC) 2024.

The event, organised on Sunday under the aegis of Directorate General of Mines Safety (DGMS), Bhubaneswar Region, saw Ganua Iron Ore Mine emerge as Overall Performance winner in the B-4 category, for excellence in mine safety protocols and implementation.

The Narayanposhi Iron Ore and Manganese Mine won the second prize in Overall Performance in B-1 category, for maintaining high standards in operational safety.

Ram Shankar Sharma, Head of Operations & Projects, and Vijay Kumar, Head of Environment, Health & Safety, received the awards along with their team members including mine managers Arundeep Bhattacharjee and Tapan Rath.

“We uphold a strong safety culture rooted in adherence to protocols and continuous improvement. Our aim is to prevent accidents and protect every individual working in our operations. We remain steadfast in our zero-harm mission,” said Sharma.

Mines Safety Week is observed annually across regions in India with the goal of promoting safe practices, reducing mine-related accidents, and encouraging mine owners and workers to embrace a culture of safety as per DGMS standards.
