Mumbai: Another 26/11-like terror attack is being planned, according to a message sent to Mumbai Police.
A threat message, warning of an attack similar to the one in November 2008, was received on Mumbai Police traffic control’s WhatsApp number.
The message was allegedly sent from a Pakistan-based phone number and stated that six people will execute the plan in India. The sender said that his current location can be traced to Pakistan.
“Threat message sent to Mumbai Police from Pakistani number is registered in the name of Muhammad Imtiaz, resident of 28 Mohala Aziz Colony, Wendalah Road, Shahdra, Lahore. Total four numbers are linked with this person,” Mumbai Police Commissioner Vivek Phansalkar said at a media briefing.
He informed that the police is on alert in coastal areas and constantly coordinating with the Coast Guard.
Mumbai Police has launched an investigation into the matter. Other agencies have also been informed about the threat message.
“We have taken the case of the threat message very seriously. Agencies have been informed of all measures to investigate the threat matter,” Maharashtra deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis said.
In one of the most daring terror incidents on Indian soil, 10 Lashkar-e-Taiba members carried out shooting and bombing attacks at various locations of Mumbai, lasting four days. As many as 175 people, including nine terrorists, were killed and over 300 wounded.
