Another 57, Including 54 Women, Arrested For Group Clash In Bhubaneswar’s Patia

Bhubaneswar: Mancheswar police in Bhubaneswar on Friday arrested another 57 people, including 54 women, for their alleged involvement in a clash that broke out on October 26 between two groups at Padmakesharipur village in Patia.

“They were nabbed during a raid in the locality and will be forwarded to court after medical examination,” said a police officer.

Earlier, 77 residents of Padmakesharipur Talasahi and Padmakesharipur Majhisahi were arrested in connection with the clash during which the groups threw stones and bottles at one another, leaving 20 injured.

The arrested have been booked under Sections 147, 148 (rioting armed with weapon), 323, 324, 336, 337, 427, 506 (criminal intimidation), 307 (attempt to murder) and 149 of IPC. Some accused have also been booked under Section 294 of the IPC (use of obscene action, words).

Notably, three cases have been registered in connection with the violence, which is being attributed to alleged political rivalry.

On September 11, a similar group clash had left 10 injured in the area.
