Kendrapara: The Special Task Force (STF) of Odisha Crime Branch have arrested an associate of gangster Tito alias Syed Usman Ali.
According to sources, Khirod Kar was picked up from his residence at Sanamangala area in the district late on Saturday.
Another associate of the gangster, identified as Niranjan Sahoo, was also nabbed by police the same day.
The Crime Branch officials conducted simultaneous raids on Tito’s residence at Dilarpur, office located on bypass road, bike showroom at Pattamundai of Kendrapara district, besides raiding his petrol pumps in Kendrapara and Paradip Friday afternoon.
The STF had taken Tito on a five-day remand on June 4.
The Crime Branch had appealed for 10-day remand of the gangster. However, the Kendrapara Sub-Divisional Judicial Magistrate (SDJM) court allowed it to take him on remand of five days.
A team of Crime Branch STF had picked up Tito from his house in Kendrapara district. The team had to open fire on him when he attempted to flee near Chandikhol in Jajpur district.
The gangster sustained bullet injuries and was admitted to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack.
Nearly four hours after the incident, the Crime Branch had nabbed six of Tito’s associates following separate raids.
Tito is allegedly involved in more than 50 cases pertaining to tender fixing.
