Kendrapara: More than 15 passengers had a narrow escape in another boat capsize in Odisha’s Kendrapara district on Monday afternoon.
According to reports, apart from the passengers, there were also six bikes and four bi-cycles on the boat.
It left Bijaynagar ghat of Gobari river in Mahakalapada block to go to the other side of the river bank in the afternoon when the boatman lost control. People present at the ghat, jumped into the river and rescued all the passengers. However, the bikes, bi-cycles and the boat sank.
Talking to the media, irate locals said that the district administration has not taken any precautionary measures to ensure the safety of the passengers who depend on country boats to go to the other side of the river.
It may be recalled that 10 people had drowned when a boat capsized in the Mahanadi confluence at Balighat near Nepania in Kendrapara district on January 2 this year.
