Phulbani: The driver of a mini-bus was killed and 13 passengers were injured in a collision with a pick-up van carrying iron rods in Odisha’s Kandhamal district on Tuesday.
As per reports, the accident took place when the bus, carrying around 25 passengers, was going from G Udaygiri to Phulbani in the district in the morning. As the bus reached Malansuga square, nearly 4 km from G Udaygiri, the van coming from a road on right side collided with it.
While the driver, identified as Adikanda Panda, was critically injured, 13 passengers sustained injuries on the impact of the collision. On being informed, police along with Fire services personnel rushed to the spot and rescued the passengers.
The injured bus passengers and the driver were admitted in the community health centre at G Udaygiri. Later, the doctors advised to shift Panda to MKCG Medical College and Hospital at Berhampur as his condition deteriorated. While being taken in an ambulance, Panda succumbed on the way.
The condition of one of the passengers was stated to be critical. The police have registered a case and started investigation.
In a similar accident on Monday, the driver of an OSRTC bus was killed following a collision with a pick-up van laden with iron rods in Malkangiri district.
