Another Case Of Ganja Smuggling In Odisha’s Malkangiri, One Arrested

Malkangiri: A few days after a Home Guard died in a clash with ganja smugglers in the district, police on Thursday seized more than 3 quintal of the contraband from a banana-laden van and arrested its driver.

According to sources, the van was spotted moving suspiciously near Orkel police station in Chitrakonda block. On being informed, a police team followed the vehicle and intercepted it at Nandiniguda.

While searching the van, more than 3 quintal of ganjas was found. The van’s driver, Amit Nomo of MV-38 village of the district, who is also the owner of the vehicle, said the ganja was being transported to Umerkote.

It may be noted that there was a clash between the police and some ganja smugglers in a jungle near Chaulmendi village of Mathili block leading to the death of a Home Guard recently.

Since then, the police have been keeping a close watch on ganja smuggling from Malkangiri, said IIC, Kudumulugumma police station Girish Chandra Maharana.
