Bhubaneswar: Two more persons, including a woman, were arrested on Thursday in connection with the alleged brutal murder of a police volunteer, Sahadeb Nayak (36), on Rasulgarh overbridge in Bhubaneswar.
With this, the total number of arrests in the case has gone up to five.
Bhubaneswar DCP Pinak Mishra identified those arrested as Rakesh Nayak alias Anda and his wife Lucky alias Laxmi. He further stated that the investigation is in its preliminary stage and more arrests are likely as involvement of more people in the case has not be ruled out completely.
Hours after the murder on Wednesday, police had nabbed three persons, including a couple. They were identified as Lipika Nayak and her husband Laxmidhar and their associate Rocky Nayak.

Police had then said that the couple had allegedly planned the crime and executed it with help of two others. Two motorcycles and two swords have also been seized from their possession.
Three days after coming out on bail in a drug trafficking case, the woman, her husband and their associates allegedly bludgeoned Sahadeb with sharp weapons, almost decapitating him, on NH-16 near Rasulgarh over-bridge at around 8 am on Wednesday while he was on his way to work after dropping off his daughter at school.
Sahadeb worked as a sanitation supervisor with the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC).
Police have attributed the fatal attack to past enmity while his wife alleged that he had received death threats for opposing drug peddlers in the locality. All the accused as well as Sahadeb lived in Kedarpalli slums of the city.
