Toronto: Hours after the South Korean plane’s crash, an Air Canada flight had a narrow escape as it made a scary landing at Halifax airport. The aircraft skid down the runway and caught fire following touchdown with a broken landing gear. There were no immediate reports of casualties.
Earlier in the day, a Boeing 737 caught fire on landing in South Korea’s Muan airport. All but two passengers died in the mishap.
Purported videos of the Air Canada flight, claimed to be of the incident, showed wings of the aircraft scraping the runway. This led to the fire.
The aircraft reportedly belongs to PAL Airlines. The aircraft was Air Canada flight AC2259, flying between St. John’s and Halifax, reports claimed.
Just hours before this, a Jeju Airplane carrying 181 passengers exploded after landing in Muan. As many as 179 passengers were presumed dead in the crash.
The Jeju Airplane was carrying 175 passengers and six flight attendants, South Korea’s Yonhap News Agency claimed.
Lost control while emergency landing: Another close shave in Norway
KLM Royal Dutch Airlines flight veered off the runway at Oslo Torp Sandefjord Airport in Norway following an emergency landing on Saturday, December 28, reported the India Today.
According to officials, the Boeing 737-800, en route to Amsterdam from Oslo Airport, experienced a hydraulic failure shortly after takeoff, reports claimed. The crew opted to divert to Sandefjord Airport, about 110 kilometres south of Oslo and the plane touched down safely at Sandefjord Airport. But it lost control during the landing rollout, reported the Aviation24. However, none of the passengers were injured.
