Mumbai: Nearly 25 years after the success of ‘Lagaan’, Aamir Khan and filmmaker Ashutosh Gowariker may reunite for another cricket-based film drama inspired by the life of legendary Indian cricketer Lala Amarnath.
According to reports, the film is currently in the advanced stages of scripting, with production expected to commence around September 2026.
Unlike Lagaan, which combined fictional storytelling with a colonial-era cricket backdrop, the new pro
ject is said to be based on historical events surrounding India’s Partition in 1947. Filmmaker Rajkumar Hirani and writer Abhijat Joshi have also been involved for shaping the script through creative suggestions.
Reports further claimed that the makers are considering casting another leading actor to portray Lala Amarnath’s close associate, who will also play an important parallel lead in the narrative.
After wrapping up this film, Aamir is likely to begin work on filmmaker Rahul Mody’s project alongside Shraddha Kapoor.
At the same time, speculation around a sequel to ‘3 Idiots’ continues to grow, with reports suggesting that the much-awaited film could go on floors in the second half of 2027.
