Another criminal injured in police encounter

Ganjam: Notorious criminal Ananta Patnaik was injured in an encounter with police at Karanjai Square under Aska police limits in Ganjam district early on Friday.
According to reports, police intercepted Patnaik, who was seen moving near Karanjai. Sensing trouble, the criminal opened fire on policemen, who retaliated. Ananta sustained bullet injury in his right leg and was rushed to MKCG Medical and Hospital in Berhampur for treatment.
A Mauser, two live bullets and a motorcycle were seized from his possession.
Several criminal cases, including murder, attempt to murder and loot, are pending against him at different police stations in the district.
On Thursday, another criminal, identified as Babu Nayak, was injured in police encounter at Gurudapathar under Bhanjanagar police limits in the district. A pistol, live ammunition, crude bombs, detonators and nearly 1 kg gold ornaments were recovered from him.
