Bargarh: The number of farmer suicides due to alleged crop loss and loan burden in Bargarh district during October rose to three with Akshaya Dharei of Tara village under Town police limits ending his life by consuming poison on Monday morning.
According to family members, Dharei was under stress having failed to repay crop loans worth over Rs 2 lakh, which he had taken from local cooperative society bank and some private money lenders.
Four days ago, another farmer identified as Indra Bariha of Malamunda village under Gaisilet block of the district had also committed suicide by consuming poison.
On October 16, Soumendra Mohanty of Ramrahimpur village under Basudevpur block in the district had also ended his life owing to crop loss and loan burden.
