Cuttack: Another elephant has been found with gun shot wounds and is undergoing treatment in a forest in Odisha’s Cuttack district.
According to sources, the locals spotted the elephant moving in pain in a forest under Narainghpur West forest range under Athgarh forest division and trumpeting from time to time two days back. On being informed, Forest officials went to the place and tried to tranquilise the elephant. But, on sighting the officials, the tusker went deep into the forest.
The Forest officials, who could not trace the elephant, camped there and informed experts of Satkosia wildlife sanctuary. On Thursday, when the injured elephant again came to the periphery of the forest, the officials managed to tranquilise it.
As the tusker fell unconscious, the wildlife experts and veterinarians from Narsinghpur carried out medical check-up. They detected 5 gun shot wounds near left ear, leg, trunk and body of the elephant. They have started the treatment.
It may be noted that an elephant, who had also sustained gun shots in Jaipur section of Narasinghpur forest range, died even after treatment on Tuesday. Another tusker was found with gunshot injuries near a rivulet in Narasinghapur forest range on June 14.
