Cuttack: In yet another suspected case of poaching of wild animals in Odisha’s Cuttack district, an elephant has been found with gunshot wounds.
According to sources, the locals spotted the elephant roaming in Chatarpada forest under Narasinghpur forest range in Cuttack district and informed the Forest department on Wednesday.
A team of Forest officials has been camping in the forest to tranquilise the injured elephant so that the veterinary doctors can carry out its treatment. The locals said the elephant has 3 gunshot wounds on its body.
In Narasinghpur range, two elephants have died due to gunshot wounds in the last month. Last month, an elephant, which had been shot, fell a stream in the forest and was unable to move in Jaipur section of Narasinghpur forest range under Athgarh forest division in Cuttack district. Though the veterinary experts undertook its elephant, the pachyderm succumbed.
Similarly in June, another tusker was found with gunshot injuries near a rivulet in the same forest range and died later.
