Bhubaneswar: Four armed robberies in city later, police are on the offensive. In a second encounter in less than 24 hours, the Commissionerate Police apprehended two more members of the gang, which was busted on Saturday morning, near Chilipokhari under Badagada police limits early on Sunday.
The criminal duo, Sipun Kabi and Harekrushna Swain, sustained serious injuries and have been admitted to the SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack.
According to police sources, they had taken shelter in a flat near Dhauli. Following information, a police team raided the area around 2.45 am. The duo tried to escape in a motorcycle towards Tankapani Road. The chase continued till Chili Pokhari, where cops intercepted them. Having been cornered, they opened fire on police, which retaliated with four rounds of firing.
Both the criminals were hit in the leg. A Mauser, one live ammunition, a toy pistol, a motorcycle along with cash of Rs 50,000 cash and three mobile phones were seized from them.
The cops later raided the flats of the two criminals under Dhauli police limits and seized a large quantity of spirit, bottles and labels that were likely used to manufacture fake and spurious liquor.
On Saturday, Arun Mallick alias Poda and Vivekananda Nayak alias Vivek were nabbed following an encounter with police near Tankapani Road. More than 10 cases of loot, snatching and robbery were pending against Poda and Vivek at different police stations of Bhubaneswar, the sources added.
