Berhampur: The false ceiling of another department in Super Speciality Block of MKCG Medical College and Hospital at Odisha’s Berhampur city collapsed on Friday.
According to sources, parts of the false ceiling of Endocrinology department in the third floor of the hospital building collapsed in the morning. Fortunately, nobody has been injured in the incident as the room was vacant. The department has been closed following the incident.
The hospital authorities had resumed outdoor services as well as surgery in Urology, Nurology and Plastic Surgery departments in the 5th floor of the Super Speciality Block which had remained closed for more than one month after a fire incident on August 26.
The operation theatre of Urology department in the same floor had also remained closed after its false ceiling collapsed damaging costly equipment.
A high-level committee, formed by the medical authorities to probe into the fire and ceiling collapse, had held the poor quality of construction responsible for the incidents.
It may be noted that a New Delhi-based construction company had built the 6-floor Super Speciality Block at a cost of Rs 150 crore.
