Mumbai: A hit-and-run case has claimed the life of a 25-year-old model here.
A water tanker allegedly hit a bike at high speed, resulting in the death of Shivani Singh.
The accident took place in the Bandra area on Friday night. The driver manage to escape from the spot before he could be cornered by witnesses and passersby.
Bandra Police have registered a case against an unknown person and launched a manhunt for the tanker driver.
Police have examined CCTV footage from the area and also questioned eyewitnesses in an effort to to trace the absconding driver.
Shivani, a resident of Malad, and her friend had just got onto Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Road in Bandra on a motorcycle around 8 pm when the tanker hit them at high speed. Shivani, who was flung off the two-wheeler, came under the wheels of the tanker.
Badly injured and bleeding, she was taken to the nearby Bhabha Hospital, where doctors declared her brought dead.
Mumbai has been notorious for hit-and-run incidents in recent months.
There have been several such mishaps since the headline-grabbing BMW hit-and-run case in July 2024 when a woman was killed.
Last week, a truck driver ran over a scooter in Mulund, killing a 30-year-old woman who was riding pillion.
In September, a 17-year-old boy was killed after a speeding car hit the bike which the victim and his two friends were riding.
