New Delhi: Congress on Friday saw another setback as Kiran Kumar Reddy, the last chief minister of united Andhra Pradesh before Telangana was carved out from it, joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). This came a day after former defence minister AK Antony’s son Anil Antony switched to the saffron party.
Reddy, who was inducted into BJP in the presence of Union Minister Pralhad Joshi, hit out at the Congress leadership for its inability to accept people’s verdict and make course correction.
Citing his family’s over six-decade-long association with the Congress, the former CM added that he had never imagined that he would have to leave the party.
According to reports, the BJP, which is attempting to emerge as a third alternative in the state, could project Reddy as a potential chief ministerial candidate. He has considerable influence in Rayalaseema and is expected to strengthen the BJP’s presence in the area.
Both Reddy and Antony slammed the Congress leadership and lauded the ruling party’s leaders led by Narendra Modi for their hard work and commitment towards the nation.
