Cuttack: In a tragic incident, a Kanwariya reportedly went missing after he drowned while collecting water from Mahanadi river at Gadagadia Ghat in Cuttack on Sunday evening.
A large number of Bol Bom devotees had gathered at Gadagadia Ghat to collect water to perform the ‘Jala Lagi’ ritual on the second Monday of the auspicious Shravan month.
However, two of them accidentally slipped into the deep water and drowned.
While one of them was rescued successfully by the divers, the other Kanwariya went missing soon after drowning.
Search operation was launched by fire services personnel and others to trace the missing Kanwariya, stated to be a resident of Patia area of Bhubaneswar. He has been identified as Soumya Ranjan Patra.
Earlier, a Kanwariya died after drowning in swollen Baitarani river in Jajpur district on Sunday. The deceased was identified as Prasant Samal of Purushottampur in Bhandaripokhari block of Bhadrak district.
