Mangalore: Amid the unrest following the murder of a BJP Yuva Morcha worker, a 23-year-old youth, Mohammed Fazil, a resident of Mangalpete near Surathkal was attacked in his home town near Mangalore. The gruesome attack seemed almost like that of Praveen Nettaru’s being hacked to death in Bellare.
The entire incident caught on CCTV followed a similar pattern. A group of unknown masked attackers were seen charging at Fazil and brutally stabbing him. Ironically, the incident occurred while Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai was in Mangalore to visit the house of Praveen Nettar who was murdered in Bellare, just two hours away from Surathkal.
The incident took place outside a textile shop at Surathkal where the gang is seen beating the man up. The attackers are also seen fleeing the scene. The aftermath of the attack shows parts of the shop vandalised, News18 reported.
“At around 8pm (on July 28), there was an incident where a 23-year-old boy was brutally attacked by 4-5 people near Krishnapura Katipalla road, Surathkal. The boy was immediately shifted to a hospital & was declared dead,” N Shashi Kumar, Mangaluru Police Commissioner told ANI. According to the Police Commissioner, the man was attacked using a lethal weapon and that a case has been filed at Surathkal police station. Section 144 has also been imposed at Surathkal, Mulki, Bajpe and Panambur in Mangalore.
Cops also said that “The motive behind the incident & the identity of the culprits is being investigated” and appealed to not fall prey to rumours by what they termed “vested-interest groups”.
