Bhubaneswar: With the southwest monsoon remaining active in Odisha under the influence of a well-marked low pressure, the state will receive more rainfall till next week under the influence of another low-pressure, which is most likely form over the Bay of Bengal in the next 72 hours.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD), in a mid-day bulletin, on Wednesday said that the well-marked low-pressure area over Southeast Madhya Pradesh and adjoining parts of north Vidarbha has weakened into a low-pressure area, while a monsoon trough is now passing through the centre of the low-pressure area over Bhubaneswar and then southeastwards to the east-central Bay of Bengal.

Under its influence, most parts of North Odisha will receive heavy rain on Wednesday.

Although there will be light to moderate rainfall in the state on Thursday, the rainfall activity will increase from the afternoon of September 10 as a shear zone along Latitude 20°N between 3.1 km & 5.8 km above mean sea level will make the condition favourable for the formation of a low-pressure area over the north and adjoining central Bay of Bengal around September 11, it said.

As the system is likely to become more marked during the subsequent 24 hours, there will be a further increase in the intensity of rainfall for two days till September 14.

In view of the heavy rainfall, yellow warnings have been issued for the following districts.

September 8
Heavy rainfall at one or two places in Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapada and Jagatsinghpur.
