Bhubaneswar: With a fresh low-pressure brewing over the Bay, heavy rain is likely to continue in many parts of Odisha over the next five days.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Saturday that a fresh low-pressure area is likely to form over northwest and adjoining west-central Bay of Bengal around August 18.
Meanwhile, the low-pressure area already formed over south Odisha and adjoining north Andhra Pradesh now lay over south Chhattisgarh and neighbourhood. It is likely to move west-north-westwards and weaken gradually and would reach over Gujarat around August 18 morning as a remnant cyclonic circulation.
During the next 24 hours, heavy rain and thunderstorm with lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph may occur at one or two places over the districts of Malkangiri and Koraput. The weather agency has issued yellow warning for these districts.
Yellow warning was also issued about thunderstorm with lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph at some places of Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Sonepur, Boudh, Nuapada, Balangir, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nabarangpur, and Rayagada districts.
On August 17-18, yellow warning of heavy rain and thunderstorm with lightning with gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph was issued for the districts of Malkangiri and Koraput.
Thunderstorm with lightning with gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph may also occur at one or two places over the districts of Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Sundargarh, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Sonepur, Boudh, Nuapada, Balangir, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nabarangpur, and Rayagada.
On August 18-19, orange warning was issued about heavy to very heavy rain and thunderstorm with lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph at some places of Malkangiri and Koraput districts.
Similarly, yellow warning was issued for Nabarangpur, Kalahandi and Nuapada districts.
Thunderstorm with lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph may occur at one or two places over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj,Sonepur, Boudh, Bolangir, Kandhamal, and Rayagada.
On August 19-20, orange warning of heavy to very heavy rain and thunderstorm with lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph was issued for the districts of Koraput and Kalahandi.
Similarly, yellow warning was issued for one or two places over the districts of Malkangiri and Balangir .
Thunderstorm with lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph may occur at one or two places over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj,Sonepur, Boudh, Nuapada, Kandhamal, Nabarangpur, and Rayagada.
As sea condition is likely to remain rough, fishermen are advised not to venture into the deep sea along and off south Odisha coast, west central bay and northwest Bay of Bengal on August 16 and Odisha coast, west central bay and northwest Bay of Bengal from August 18 to 20.
Squally wind with wind speed 40-50 kmph gusting to 60 kmph likely along and off south Odisha coast, west central bay and northwest Bay of Bengal.
