Bhubaneswar: Rainfall activity is likely to further increase in Odisha next week with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicting the formation of another low pressure over the Bay of Bengal around July 24.
While the state is now experiencing intense rainfall under the influence of a low pressure, another low pressure area is likely to form over northwest and adjoining westcentral Bay of Bengal around July 24.
“A fresh low-pressure area is likely to form over Northwest & adjoining Westcentral Bay of Bengal around 24th July,” the Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar said in a tweet.
Rainfall activity in the state has already increased with the formation of a low pressure area over northwest Bay of Bengal off Odisha coast on Thursday morning.
The MeT Centre has forecast intense spells of rain across the state during next five days.
While orange warning for heavy to very heavy rainfall continues for two more days, the wet spell with heavy rain may persist till July 24, it said.
The IMD has also warned of temporary water logging in low-lying areas, poor visibility during intense spells of rain and traffic congestion in urban areas, possibility of wall collapse of vulnerable kutcha houses and some damage to kutcha road.
