Another Low Pressure Over Bay Of Bengal Likely By August 19

Bhubaneswar: The low pressure over the north Coastal Odisha and adjoining Gangetic West Bengal has already triggered heavy rainfall in Odisha. However, more rainfall is likely in the state as another low pressure is going to form over the north Bay of Bengal around August 19, said the India Meteorological Department (IMD) in a mid-day bulletin on Saturday.

“The monsoon trough stretching from Bikaner, Ajmer, Shivpuri, Nowgong, Rewa, Daltonganj and Purulia is now moving towards the centre of the well-marked low pressure area over north coastal Odisha and adjoining areas of northwest Bay of Bengal and Gangetic West Bengal. Under its influence, a fresh low-pressure area is most likely to form over the north Bay of Bengal around August 19,” the bulletin said.

As the monsoon is now active in Odisha under the influence of a low pressure, IMD has issued orange and yellow warnings for the following districts.

August 15
(Orange warning)
Heavy to very heavy rainfall at a few places over the districts of Sambalpur, Deogarh, Bargarh, Jharsuguda, Angul, Balangir, Nuapada, Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Dhenkanal, Jajpur and Malkangiri.

Extremely heavy rainfall at one or two places over the districts of Sambalpur, Deogarh, Bargarh, Jharsuguda and Angul.

(Yellow warning)
Heavy rainfall at one or two places over the districts of Balasore, Mayurbhanj, Bhadrak, Cuttack, Kalahandi, Kandhamal and Koraput.

August 16
(Yellow warning)
Heavy rainfall at one or two places over the districts of Koraput, Nuapada, Bargarh, Balangir, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur and Sundargarh.

August 18
(Yellow warning)
Heavy to very heavy rainfall at one or two places over the districts of Sundargarh, Deogarh, Bargarh and Keonjhar.

August 19
(Yellow warning)
Heavy to very heavy rainfall at one or two places over the districts of Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Kendrapara and Bhadrak.

Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea along and off the Odisha Coast, north-west Bay of Bengal and and Gangetic West Bengal on August 15 and 16.  Squally weather with surface wind speed reaching 45-55 kmph will make the sea condition very rough.
