Bhubaneswar: A low pressure which is likely to form over the Bay of Bengal by next week will bring rains to most parts of Odisha in the next 48 hours.
Director of SOA Centre for Environment and Climate (CEC) and former director of Regional Meteorological Science Centre of Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), Dr Sarat Chandra Sahu that there is a strong possibility of the formation of a cyclonic circulation over the Bay of Bengal which will subsequently intensify into a low-pressure area in a week, the rainfall will gradually increase in the state from July 17 and continue for four days till July 20.
Director of Meteorological Centre, Bhubaneswar, HR Biswas said as the south-west monsoon has remained subdued, there will be sporadic rainfall in the state on July 15 and 16 after which the state will receive more rainfall from July 17.
Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department (IMD), in a mid-day bulletin said a cyclonic circulation over south Chhattisgarh and neighbourhood now lying over east Vidarbha and neighbourhood with a tilt towards the south-west direction will be active in the next 24 hours. Under its influence, thunderstorm with lightning with isolated heavy rainfall at one or two places will continue across the state in the next 12 hours.
In view of the weather condition, IMD has issued yellow warning for the following districts.
June 16
Thunderstorm with lightning at one or two places over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Khurda, Nayagarh and Kandhamal.
June 17
Thunderstorm with lightning at one or two places over the districts of Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Cuttack, Nayagarh, Khurda, Puri, Ganjam, Kandhamal and Boudh.
June 18
Heavy rainfall at one or two places over the districts of Nuapada, Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Koraput, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj and Sundargarh.
Thunderstorm with lightning at one or two places over the districts of Koraput, Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Nuapada, Balangir, Sonepur, Boudh, Angul, Deogarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Dhenkanal and Cuttack.
June 19
Heavy rainfall at one or two places over the districts of Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Kandhamal, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Nayagarh and Cuttack.
Thunderstorm with lightning at one or two places over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Dhenkanal, Kandhamal, Rayagada, Malkangiri and Koraput.
