Balasore: A seven-year-old boy was critically injured when kite string laced with deadly manja got wrapped around his neck in Odisha’s Balasore district on Wednesday.

According to preliminary information, the mishap took place when the boy was travelling with his father on a motorcycle near Naharpatna under Sadar Police limits.

Soon after the incident, the victim was first provided with medical treatment in Balasore and then shifted to Cuttack hospital. His condition was stated to be critical.

Despite a ban in several parts of Odisha, the deadly manja and plastic strings are being available in the market and used to fly kites.
