Cuttack: Another member of Kendrapara-based gangster Tito gang was arrested an exchange of fire with police at Choudwar area in Cuttack on Friday evening.
The accused has been identified as Ashok Behera alias Tutuni. He is involved in the recent firing on terror suspect Abdur Rehman’s brother Tahir.
Tutuni was admitted to SCB Medical College and Hospital here. One 9 MM pistol, two bullets and a motorcycle were seized from his possession.
More than seven criminal cases are pending against Tutuni at different police stations, police sources informed.
Acting on a tip-off about presence of Tutuni in Choudwar area, a team of Commissionerate Police reached the spot to nab him. Realising the arrival of police personnel, the criminal opened fire at them.
The cops retaliated back in which Tutuni sustained bullet injuries on his right leg.
Earlier in the morning, six other associates of Tito gang were arrested by police in connection with the firing case basing on information provided by Alekh Routray and Kala Babu, who were nabbed after a similar encounter in Cuttack on Thursday night.
Tahir was shot at over a tender fixing dispute in Jagatpur area here on March 29.
