Another Minor Girl Raped In Odisha’s Balasore

Balasore: Notwithstanding the hue and cry over rising incidents of rape, involving minor girls, such cases are repeatedly being reported from different parts of Odisha. A seven-year-old girl was allegedly sexually assaulted in Balasore district on Saturday night.

The incident was reported from Anantpur village where the girl had gone to attend a wedding.

According to available information, the accused identified as Manindra Mallick of Purosottampur village of the district took the girl to a secluded place and allegedly raped her.

Basing on a complaint lodged by the girl’s family at Soro police station, the cops have arrested the accused.

A 48-year-old man was arrested on Thursday for allegedly raping a mentally and physically disabled minor girl in Nayagarh district, about four months back. The incident came to light after the 16-year-old girl was rushed her to a nearby hospital on Tuesday after she complained of feeling unwell. After medical check-up, the doctors came to know that she was pregnant.

In April, six incidents of minor rapes were reported in nine days.

While two incidents were reported from Nilagiri and Khaira in Balasore district on April 13, one more girl was sexually assaulted at Soro in the same district after two days. An eight-year-old girl was also raped at Biswanathpur in Kalahandi district on April 17. A day later, a 14-year-old girl was sexually assaulted in Mayurbhanj district.

On April 21, a six-year-old minor girl was allegedly raped, strangulated and left inside a school campus at Jagannathpur village under Salepur police limits in Cuttack district. She died after a weeklong battle for life at the SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack.
