Bhubaneswar: In yet another disturbing incident from Odisha, a minor girl was allegedly sexually assaulted by a truck driver in Malkangiri district.
According to sources, the girl had visited a friend’s house for a birthday celebration on Monday evening and did not return home. Despite frantic efforts by her family members to locate her, she could not be traced. Following which, they lodged a missing person’s complaint at Adarsh police station. Later that night, locals spotted her in a suspicious situation with a truck driver near National Highway 326 at Bija Ghati and alerted police, who then rescued the girl and placed her in the care of Shakti Sadan, a government-run shelter home in Malkangiri town.
The truck driver, who attempted to escape, was also apprehended at Govindapalli check post and later arrested. He has been identified as Shubham Singh (26), a resident of Madhya Pradesh, PTI reported, quoting police.
The truck was transporting cement and was en route to Jeypore in Koraput district. It is being alleged that Singh forcibly took the girl in his truck.
