Another Minor Rape Victim Commits Suicide In Odisha

Khurda: Close on the heels of the suicide of the minor rape victim in Koraput district, a similar incident has taken place in Khurda district.

Sources said a Class X minor girl of Suanpadia villager under Banapur police station limits was allegedly raped by a youth of the same village in the night on on December 31 last year while she had gone outside her house to attend the nature’s call.

After the girl narrated the incident to her parents, a meeting was held in the village.  Later a complaint was lodged with the Banapur police station on January 2.

But as the police did not take any action, the frustrated girl committed suicide on Wednesday night after consuming poison.

Following the incident, Balugan SDPO Subash Chandra Panda and a team of Banapur police rushed to the village. But the irate villagers did not hand over the body alleging gross inaction by the police.

However, police later sent the body to Banapur Government Hospital for post mortem after assuring the villagers to take appropriate action against the accused.

We have taken up the matter seriously. Police has recorded the statement of the victim under section 164 of the IPC. I have verifiied the case. Effors are on to arrest the accused, the SDPO said.
