Bhubaneswar: Another nurse from Odisha has been selected for the National Florence Nightingale Award for 2021.
After the nurses from Ganjam and Jagatsinghpur, the Indian Nursing Council has announced the name of Damayanti Rout, working as auxiliary nurse and midwife (ANM) at pubic heath sub-centre in Gounighasa under Harichandanpur block of Keonjhar district. She will receive the award from President Ramnath Kovind.
Born in Tarimula village under Ghasipura block of the district in 1968, Damayanti was first posted at Khamara UGPHC in Angul district in 1996. She was transferred to Kasia sub-centre under Jhumpura CHC in Keonjhar and then to Billa subicenter under Harichandanpur block.
Damayanti has been carrying out immunisation work in the hard to-reach villages which has no communication and is surrounded by forest. She moves around the villages with no motorable roads for health related works on her bicycle.
She is also involved in various health-related programmes of the state government. She carries out IEC activities for community awareness and distribution of insecticidal mosquito net. She is also engaged in counselling and motivation for family planning programme and Swachha Bharat Abihyan.
Earlier, Shibani Das, a nurse working with MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur and Khulana Barik engaged in Jagatsinghpur district headquarters were nominated for the award.
