Jajpur/Bhubaneswar: Another COVID patient succumbed to the disease in Odisha on Saturday. It is third fatality this week and second in two consecutive days in the state.
Speaking to media persons, Dr Biranchi Narayan Barik, CDMO, Jajpur said the victim, identified as 21-year-old Suprit Mohanty of Umapada under Vyasanagar municipal limits, had tested positive for COVID.
“Following detection of COVID, Suprit was undergoing treatment at Kalinga Hospital in Bhubaneswar since July 12. But the patient, who had comorbidity, was discharged by the hospital authorities on Friday,” Dr Barik said.
Later on the day, as the condition of Suprit, who had severe obesity, deteriorated, he was rushed to community health centre (CHC) at Jajpur Road. He succumbed in the CHC on Saturday morning.
The local municipality authorities were informed about Suprit’s death and his body was cremated in the cremation ground of Jajpur as per COVID protocol, the district administration sources said.
On Friday, an 82-year-old resident of Sundargarh had died of COVID while a 78-year-old man succumbed to the disease in Bhubaneswar on Tuesday. The state had registered its last coronavirus fatality on May 2 when two persons died.
