Bhubaneswar: Another rare Anaconda died in the Nandankanan Zoological Park on the outskirts of Odisha capital. This was the second death of the rare species of yellow Anaconda in as many days in the zoo.
Zoo officials said two yellow Anakondas were unwell for the last few days. While one died on Tuesday while undergoing treatment, another death took place on Wednesday night.
The zoo authorities said that the exact cause of the death of the snakes will be ascertained after post-mortem. The death of the reptiles has brought down the number of Anakonda to eight in the zoo.
It may be recalled that a team of Nandankanan Zoo had brought eight yellow Anacondas (four males and four females) and three Nile crocodiles from Madras Crocodile Bank Trust & Centre for Herpetology (MCBT) in Chennai on October 22, 2019.
The yellow Anaconda belongs to the Boa species endemic to South America. It is one of the largest snakes in the world, but smaller than the green Anaconda. Like all Boas and Pythons, Anacondas are non-venomous and kill their preys by constriction.
