Puri: A fresh incident of security breach came to light at Shree Jagannath Temple in Odisha’s Puri after a man was caught while attempting to scale the 12th century shrine on Friday.
Sources said the incident took place at the ‘Paschima Dwara’, near the Nrusingha Mandir, once again raising questions over the security arrangements in the sprawling temple complex. T
he accused has been identified as Manoj Singh, a resident of Azamgarh district in Uttar Pradesh.
Singh tried to scale the temple near the Nrusingha Mandir. However, alert security personnel intercepted the man and brought him down safely. He was immediately taken into custody and shifted to the Singhadwara police station for interrogation.
The latest incident took place a few days after a devotee was caught attempting to climb the temple structure by the Jagannath Temple Police (JTP).
Earlier, a visitor was found carrying a spy camera in his spectacles and was caught while trying to take photos inside the temple.
Several instances of unauthorised photos being taken inside the temple have been reported in the past, raising concerns about the temple’s security.
Recently, the Puri Superintendent of Police had announced that barricades had been erected near the Ekadashi Mandir and Dakshini Ghara to stop such attempts to climb the shrine structure.
