Bhubaneswar: In a fresh blow to Congress ahead of the twin elections, senior leader and former MLA Chiranjib Biswal resigned from the grand old party.
As per sources, Chiranjib Biswal has tendered his resignation from the primary membership of Congress. The former legislator has submitted his resignation to Odisha Pradesh Congress (PCC) president Sarat Pattanayak.
“I hereby tender my resignation from the primary membership of the Indian National Congress,” Chiranjib said in his resignation letter.
His decision to desert Congress comes amid resignation of several prominent leaders from grand old party which appears to be struggling to keep its flocks together ahead of the crucial Lok Sabha and Assembly elections.
Chiranjib’s move came months after he kept himself away from party affairs. The conspicuous absence of Chiranjib during announcement of the party’s manifesto for the upcoming elections in the state had already set off speculations about the former MLA quitting the party and joining BJD.
Congress president of Jagatsinghpur district unit Natabar Barik had recently convened a press meet to unveil the party’s manifesto. While several local leaders attended the meet, Chiranjib stayed away from the party event.
