Nabarangpur: The government ITI at Umerkote in Odisha’s Nabarangpur district witnessed another suicide on Thursday. Assistant trainer Jayalaxmi Hembram was found hanging inside its library.

According to sources, Jayalaxmi belonging to Mayurbhanj district had joined the ITI in 2019 on contract basis and her service was regularised in 2022. She was working in Electronic and Mechanical department of the institute.

But she developed mental problems some time back and went on a long leave for treatment. She had rejoined the duty 15 days before and was assigned work in the library.

On Thursday, she came to the ITI as usual and received the books returned by the students. As she did not go home for lunch in the afternoon, her husband Bharat Chandra Kisku came to the institute to enquire. When he went to the library, he found Jayalaxmi hanging from a fan with her scarf.

He informed other staff of the institute and brought her down. But she was already dead at the time. On being informed, a team from Umerkote police station went to the spot and sent the body for post-mortem. They have registered a case of unnatural death and launched investigation.

It may be noted that a girl student of the ITI had committed suicide in the campus last year while another student was found dead under mysterious circumstances 5 years back.
